Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawnmower Issues, crankcase oil, hp briggs

Question
QUESTION: I have Troybuilt 6.5 hp Briggs and Straton Lawnmower that when I pull the cord to start and it starts (billowing black and white smoke) and then peters out after a few minutes. If I try to start after this it wont, but if I let it sit for a good bit it will start again and then peter out. I had stabil in the fuel for over the winter and dumped the fuel and put in fresh and no solution to the problem ? Is this a spark plug issue or (my fears) something worse ?

ANSWER:   Hello Shannon:

Is the Oil in the Crankcase Overfilled and have a Gas Smell to It. If yes, then Change the Crankcase Oil and Refill with Good Oil. The Black Smoke is a Sign of Flooding and the White Smoke is Usually a Sign of Gas in the Crankcase Oil. Send me the Model and Type Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manuals and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

QUESTION: It is a 6.5 hp Briggs and Straton z-start engine.  Troybuilt model # 11A-436A711. Could it be the carbuerator ? Thanks for your help !

Answer
 Hello Again Shannon:

Yes the Cause is the Needle and Seat in the Carburetor. Remove, Disasseemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner(I use Gunk). Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install New Kit. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
