Land Rover Repair: 1996 Landrover Discovery wont start, landrover discovery, tank fuel

Question
QUESTION: Our 1996 Discovery was left in the drive position and the key was taken out when parked.  Two days later we noticed it in the drive position and put it in the park position to try to start it. It cranks over, but will not start. We have tried this multiple times with no luck. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks so much,

ANSWER: The only think I can think of is that the alarm system may be preventing it from starting.  Did you try locking and unlocking with the pushbutton, then cranking it over?

QUESTION: Do you mean the fob? All we have is a key, no fob.

Answer
The car was originally sold with a fob that activated and turned off the security.  That was one idea.  Otherwise I am sorry but I see no reason why leaving the key in the car and the car in drive (key off) for any period of time would prevent starting.  Up here our cars are in garages and they are often left like that with no problem.  Sometimes cars break and an observation like yours is just coincidence.  Perhaps it's time to start looking at the basics . . . is there fuel in the tank?  Fuel pressure at the engine?  Spark at the plugs?  If not, or if you are not sure how to tests, it's time to look for a shop that is qualified to work on Land Rovers.
