Land Rover Repair: gearbox wont change gears, change gears, landrover discovery

i have a landrover discovery 2 2002 v8 petrol auto,it had a flat battery ,i recharged the battery,i now have the m and s lights on dash blinking ,and it wont change gear,

Hi Peter,

I suspect the alternator has failed.  Have the output tested on the ALT and make sure its generating more than 12V, 14V is best.  The ideal test is remove the alternator and have it bench tested - in the event that it fails under load, with heat or randomly.

If serpentine belt has been removed and reinstalled, its possible that it was not installed properly.  This could result in little or no charge to the battery.
