Land Rover Repair: Discovery whistling, land rover discovery, 2003 land rover discovery

Question
I have a 2003 Land Rover Discovery. Lately it has started to "whistle" as soon as it is started up, even when I am not driving it. I took up the hood and the sound is coming from the serpantine belt area or very close. The sound is NOT coming from either side, which I heard is a good thing.
I know I have a valve gasket that needs repair, not sure if it has to do with that or not. I have to drive 15 hours coming up soon and I really want to get this figured out before my drive to Midland TX from Pensacola FL. It has 90,000 miles now on it.
Thank you!!!
Alicia

Answer
My guess is that the whistle is the screech of one of your belt driven accessories.  Most of the time you can remove the belt and spin the accessory pulleys one by one to find the problem.  I recommend you do this right away for the next step is for the pulley to come apart.  Then you lose the belt, and if the engine overheats, you lose the engine.  So a small problem gets real big fast
