Land Rover Repair: landrover freelander 1999, landrover freelander, wheel bearings

when i start my landrover it is fine and when reving whilst in neutral it is fine . W hen i move i get a rubbing fan like humm from the left hand passenger side . Any ideas before i get conned at a garage

The first step is to look carefully in that area.  Is there evidence of scuffing or rubbing?  If not, I'd take the wheel off and look for scuffing on the brake or wheel components.  If still nothing, you should check the wheel bearings.  I expect the garage will go through that process, and it may take a little while to determine what's wrong.  You may be able to do some of those steps yourself, and if you identify what's making noise, all the better.
