Land Rover Repair: 1998 disco driver door lock, cylinder locks, door locks

Question
Key flops in lock;no resistance when turned. Alarm comes on if door opened. removed door panel...found black plastic rectangle  1/16-1/16-3/16 size (guess). Looks like it broke off of a black plastic disc attached to the end of the lock cylinder. Assume it is there to engage and disengage alarm switch when key locks and unlocks door.

Dealer says only fix is buy lock 'kit' which includes all 3 door cylinder locks (and fuel door lock)for $850.00

Is it possible to rebuild this end of cylinder assembly ?

Answer
Hi Steve,

you can submit to the dealer ransom and have them repair this, search the internet, purchase and install new locks yourself, hire a locksmith to rebuild the lock using either new or salvaged parts, or buy salvaged parts and do the work yourself.

I've not rebuilt our Disco's locks but I've seen threads where owners have done this:

If it were my Disco, I'd buy salvaged parts and use the original barrel.

Best of luck,
JohnMc
