Land Rover Repair: 97 Disco 1, crankshaft position sensor, oxygen sensors

Question
My 97 Disco 1 has 215,000 km and receives regular maintenance. A problem I can't solve is when the truck hasn't been driven for more than a couple of days.  The engine will start immediately and idle normally.  Also, you can drive with the engine apparently operating normally when approximately 10 minutes later the engine starts to misfire.  You have to pull off the road because if you press the gas pedal too far the engine will backfire.

This behaviour will continue till about 30 minutes of idling when the engine returns to completely normal operation like nothing happened!  I've changed the ignition wires and thought the problem had disappeared when just recently the truck had not been running for 4 days in wet weather and the same situation occurred.
I had to idle the engine for 50 minutes before normal power returned!

Just wondering if oxygen sensors or Exhaust Gas Recovery system could be at fault?

Any ideas greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Manj,

hard to tell.  At first I thought it could be crankshaft position sensor or perhaps camshaft sensor.  So once the Disco is fully warmed up, the problem is gone?  I wonder if its a temp sensor - coolant or fuel?  Were there any warning lights triggered?  Check engine or Service engine?  Have you tried to read some OBDII codes, if any?

Have you had the Disco hooked up to a diagnostic machine?
