Land Rover Repair: Repairs to Think About, land rover discovery, 2003 land rover discovery

Question
Hi:  I have a 2003 Land Rover Discovery II.   Its been great so far.  I've only had to replace a thermostat in addition to the usual oil, spark plug and air filter service.  At 96,000 miles, do I need to be thinking about shocks, coils, hubs, sensors or anything like that?   The car is on-road only.  I'm just curious if there are any typical failures that occur around this time that I may want to fix proactively.   Thanks, Mark

Answer
Hi Mark,

careful here...don't fix something that isn't broke.  If you've been maintaining your Disco well, continue with what you are doing.  Complete fluids replacement is safe, change only those parts that appear worn and in need of repair.  The major problems are usually electrics (door locks, windows, fusebox, some relays, corrosion), headgasket failure is common, MAF failure, HO2 failure too.

Best best, have the Disco inspected by an independent LR shop, preferably one that you trust, and keep the fluids and filters clean.  You could have your exhaust analyzed for the coolant - an indicator that you may have a headgasket about to blow.

Glad to read you are not having repair trouble,
JohnMc
