Land Rover Repair: 2003 Freelander, dash unit, factory stereo

Question

My factory stereo is completely dead and the dealership wants $150 to just look at it. Could this be a fuse or should I consider replacing on my own?

Answer
You can certainly check the fuses.  Most of the time, when the radio goes out in a Freelander, the dash unit has failed and needs to be changed.  In terms of cost, you can save money by buying a replacement on ebay.  I actually suspect you can buy a replacement radio online for less than what the dealer wants to test the radio you have.  I would not normally tell someone to just cross their fingers and change a part, but in this instance that's something to ponder
