Land Rover Repair: 98 Range rover coolant boiling/ticking/stalling, temp gauge, cylinder sleeve

Question
My Range rover keeps overheating even tho my thermostat was replaced. i droove it 300 miles after the replacement and it was fine till i shut it off and coolant overflowed from the resevoir and was leaking onto the ground from underneath the driverside door. I was able to refill it and it worked well again until i would stop and it would boil over again. I recently tried driving it and it overheated without the temp gauge inclining its overheating. The engine began to tick during acceleration and then it lost power and stalled. Once I put it in park and turned the accessory power on the temp gauge then showed it was well overheating. What do You recommend?

Answer
Hi Alan,

have this repaired as soon as possible.  The most common cause is a blown headgasket (about $2000+). Could also be a radiator fault or perhaps heater matrix - pressure testing should reveal this. It would be nice if it's only an air blockage.

The ticking noise is bad and I hope it does not get worse:

The worse case is that a cylinder sleeve has come loose and dropped - caused by an extremely overheated engine. Loss of power and ticking noises are signs of this.  Mind you, the ticking noises would always be present. IF this is true, the engine is ruined.  This is why it is very important to have the problem corrected now before the problem becomes worse.

I wish you luck with this,
