Land Rover Repair: Freelander Issues, land rover freelander, electric cooling fans

Question
I have 3 questions regarding a 2003 Land Rover Freelander:
1) Can a slightly noisey purge valve effect the function of either the electronic cooling fan or a timing belt failure?
2) With no abnormal vehicle performance, no engine light illuminated and no abnormal noise other than the slightily ticking purge valve. Can a failing timing belt show any signs that it will fail?
3) Are there any signs that an electronic cooling fan will fail if the car is not experiencing any signs of over heating nor are there any abnormal sounds coming from this fan?

Answer
The purge valve has absolutely nothing to do with either the electric fans or the timing belt

I am sorry to say timing belts generally fail without warning.  That is why it is so vitally important to change them at or before the recommended interval.

Electric cooling fans sometimes whine or screech before they fail, but other times they just start blowing the fuse or relay.  So you might have warning, or maybe not.

One thing your questions point out is the importance of having a service provider who really knows the vehicles.  If he looks at the car regularly, you have a chance some of these clues would be picked up.  Such a person should know when a timing belt change is due, and tell you.  Otherwise, you go along till there's a failure, and the failures you ask about are really costly.
