Land Rover Repair: Disco 2 gearbox, neutral safety switch, gearbox oil

Question
I have a late 2004 Discovery 2 Auto (facelift model). The Manual and Sport lights keep illuminating on the dash. The garage I bought it from replaced the ABS modulator and sensors and changed the gearbox oil and filter. All was fine for a week and now it is occurring again and the engine loses power. There is a clunk during the first change up. (Probably due to age 86k?). Please advise.

start inhibitor neutra
Hi Stewart,

there should be no 'clunk during the first change up' and your 86K is low kilometers for a 6+ year old Disco (perhaps in the UK but not for us N.Americans).   Sometimes the M+S lightshow is due to water ingress:  Land Rover is aware that "Water may enter the gearbox starter inhibitor switch harness connector via the harness joint causing this symptom", M+S warning lights to appear.
RESOLUTION: INSTALL NEW NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH AND HARNESS.

This was from a NAS Technical Service Bulletin I once read.  May not be your problem but its worth a look.  Have your mechanic at least inspect the start inhibitor switch and harness for any signs of corrosion. Also have the garage address the 'clunk' you are hearing, which is surely not normal.

Best of luck,
