Land Rover Repair: 1996 Land Rover Discovery wont go in gear, land rover discovery, brake switch

i got in yesterday and my yard  was full of cars so i had to park going down a hill but when i went back outside to put it in the driveway it would not shift into gear it cranks up fine but it wont shift in gear its like its locked

Hi Toby,

sounds like you may have a problem with your brake switch.  There is a common problem with LR's where the brake pedal switch does not disengage and thus shifting out of gear is prevented.  The common fix for this is to replace the switch and it is not that difficult.  

Another common problem is within the shifter console itself.  A clip has been known to pop off and thus not allowing the shifter to work.  You'll have to disassemble the centre console below your shifter to see if this is the case.
