Land Rover Repair: door locks - actuator replacement, latch assembly, blown fuse

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2003 Disco.  The drivers side lock has stopped working with the remote.  It will work with the key.  I looked for a blown fuse but could only find a central locking fuse.  Are there any individual fuses for these?  My other choice would be and actuator.
Whats your thoughts?

ANSWER: Hi John,

chances are your door is not working because the door actuator assembly has seized up.  Door problems are common for LR's and your best bet is just to replace the latch.  If you have the dealer to it, it'll cost you $300 or more a door.  If you do it yourself it will cost you anywhere from $100 to $140 for the actuator and 1 to 2 hours of your time.

You can try cleaning and lubricating but the problem will come back.

QUESTION: Does the window frame have to be removed when changing the the actuator?

Answer
Hello again,

according to the LR workshop manual, yes - door frame (including glass) is removed in order to make way to remove the latch assembly.  Some DIY'ers have reported that they were able to remove and install the actuator without completely removing the window and frame.  My guess is they have long fingers and don't mind the added difficulty of tight spots.  They just lifted the frame slightly to remove and insert the part.

I can send you a copy of the workshop steps, if you'd like.
