Land Rover Repair: 03 Freelander Service Engine soon light, engine management computer, emission control systems

The light had come on and then went off.  It's been two weeks now and it is back on and doesn't go off. The dials all appear to be in good shape.  We did notice that the oil was low and added some and plan to get the oil changed.  Please give us your experience with this "Service Engine Soon" light.

The light came on because your engine management computer detected a problem in the way your engien ran, or the operation of your emission control systems.

Find a shop that can connect with their diagnostic computer to see what's going on

The light has nothing to do with changing your oil.

As an aside, your Freelander needs synthetic oil such as Mobil 1 0-40.  I suggest changing it every 7500 miles.
