Land Rover Repair: Land Rover engine shuts off while driving, range rover hse, land rover service

Question
I have a brand new Range Rover HSE with 600 miles on it. I've
had it for ten days.  When I was driving down a hill (I had shifted
to the next lower gear), the engine went dead, the steering went
out.  When I stopped the car I was able to start it again.  Four
days later I put gas in the car and was unable to start it.  There
was nothing other than a click when I turned the ignition.  Forty-
five minutes later it started.  The dealer has run tests on the
computer and finds that there is nothing wrong.  Prior to the
engine not starting the last time, there was a very strong burned
rubber smell coming from the engine.  I have also noticed that
the radio sound doesn't always come on even though the screen
is on.  I would appreciate any advice or information that you may
have.  Thanks.

Answer
My best advice as a long time Land Rover service manager is that you take the car to the dealer, show and tell them what is happening, and let them fix it.

New cars have all manner of strange problems, and going in there with suggestions from me will probably not help you establish a good rapport with them.

It is important to be able to trust and have confidence in your service department, and walking in with a "second opinion" from someone else is probably not a good way to start.  Hopefully your experience will be good.  Give them a try.

Let me know what happens and feel free to write if they are unable to resolve your problem.
