Land Rover Repair: 89 RR - Temp Gauge ?, laser thermometer, 98 degrees

Question
I've had my RR about six months but most of the time, it's been in shop.  Temp was running hot, so flushed radiotor, replaced thermostat, then temp sender, and back-flushed radiotor.  Now, gauge shows consistently almost at top of 'normal' range...way to close to 'red' for my confort range but according to mechanic isn't overheating.  Tried to measure actual temp while flushing with laser thermometer; water registered at 98 degrees but gauge was 'normal' which I understand to be 190 degrees?  Is it likely to be the gauge itself or is everyone missing something?

Answer
It sounds like you may be confusing celsius and farenheit tempertature readings.  Otherwise, the mechanic it not doing something right.

The fact that he's confused and you are writing this tells me he's in our his head.  I suggest you look on www.rangerovers.net for a qualified Rover specialist and have them check the truck.

If the gauge is at the top the truck is probably running hot and you risk damage if you drive it that way.
