Land Rover Repair: Head lights not working, altanator, rovers north

Question
I have a 1966 series 2a (88), I have had some trouble with getting the head lights to work. All of the other lights work, but the head lights will not turn on. What could the problem be? and where should I start. When i got the rover it had a 24v altanator in it when it should of had a 12v could the 24v have burned the lights out? Also what is usually the problem whent the speedometer does not work? where do I begin to fix it?

On those old 1960s Rovers the wiring has usually been cut up so much you just have to puzzle it out or run new wires.  You can buy a wiring harness from Rovers North (802 879 0032) or just use a test light and troubleshoot and fix what you have.  There is no single answer for this, just plodding troubleshooting
