Land Rover Repair: 97 Land Rover stuck in park, lamp sockets, stop lamp

Question
Hey - I have a '97 LandRover that is stuck in park.  Everything was working fine when I left this morning and I have been able to drive it all day with no problems getting it into drive.  However, when I went to get back into it this afternoon, it wouldn't budge out of park.  One thing to note, when we were looking it over, we noticed that the signal light wires were burnt up and none of the signals were working.  I followed my husband home last night and all the lights were working fine, so it apparently happened this afternoon... don't know if this is somehow related to the problem.

Answer
If the brake lights are not working the car won't shift out of park. Start there.  You will probably find either shorted wiring at the trailer connector, damaged rear lamp sockets, damaged wiring in the rear, or a failed stop lamp switch.  The fuse may be blown as a result of these things.
