Land Rover Repair: land rover defender 110, rough road conditions, land rover vehicle

Question
i noticed a prior comment about buying an old land rover vehicle
in costa rica and bringing it to the US.  how does one go about
doing this . . . is there a broker or agency, or can you drive it
back to the states if you want?  i'm particularly interested in the
old defender 110.  just curious.  thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Shane,

I'm not sure about the US or Costa Rica custom regulations.  You should contact both government import export offices to determine the forms and procedures for a car.  I believe the older the vehicle, the less taxes are involved.  Newer cars in CR are usually 30% higher in price than US market.

I'd suggest you go thru an agency and have it shipped. The costs are high.

I've heard that driving to or from CR to US, it can be very tedious and a risky adventure.  Not only do you have to endure the long trip (about 2200 miles from Brownsville) but you have rough road conditions, corrupt officials and other scoundrels along the way.  Travel at night is not safe and never let anyone know your true destination.  Then there is insurance problems...most US and Canadian companys will not cover this trip...unless you pay extra!

Maybe you should keep looking in the US or Canada?
