Land Rover Repair: Discovery Condensation, land rover discovery, heater assembly

Question
I have a 2001 Land Rover Discovery and here recently I have noticed that when I'm running my A/C water begins to trickle out on the passenger side floor board - I read the answer to a similar question involving a Range Rover - cleaning out hoses that run along side the transmission - I called my local Dealer and he informed me the problem is quite common and suggested that it might the A/C filters - How can I avoid the dealer and remedy the problem myself.  Thanks Jeremy

Answer
Hi Jeremy,

I'd go with the drain plug first...don't know of any special A/C filter.

The heater assembly has both the heater matrix and an evaporator.  From what I can tell, condensation can build-up and that's when it leaks down the drain hose to the right of the transfer case.   Unless these drains are plugged, then the condensation fills the chamber and overspills into the air duct and onto the front floor.

Sometimes this hose can become plugged with mold and dirt, so the best thing to do is have it cleaned out with a wire.  Poking a hole in thru the bottom up is what some have suggested. Should be a thin wire that can travel this hose.  Don't force anything....you may poke into something expensive!

I would expect that the dealer would open up the heater assembly and clean from the inside - out.  Expectations are sometimes just that and not actualities.  I've seen this before.

Best of luck,

A/C filter?  I'm not aware of this...maybe someone can point this out to me.  Give me a page number from the workshop manuals...
