Land Rover Repair: Vacumn Pump, vacuum servo, discovery tdi

Question
Hi John
I drive a Discovery  TDi 300, build October 1994, manual. My mechanic told me I need to change the  vacumn pump, because is leaking and noise. My question is. What that pump does, where is located  and can I do it myself ?
Thank you for your answer

Regards Robert

Answer
Hi Robert,

here's a brief description (compliments of Alex) that answers your question:

Vacuum hose goes from the vacuum pump in the recess under the jack, up, along the wheel well, passes through a T -- one part of the tee continues through the firewall to the brake pedal switch (this releases the vacuum on the servo when pressing the brake pedal, thus cancelling cruise control). The other part of the tee goes to the vacuum servo near the throttle body.

Yes, if you are comfortable working with simple tools around your engine, you can do this.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
