Land Rover Repair: check engine after coolant eruption, cylinder sleeves, rad cap

Question
hi,  i had a scenario where is was cruising at about 100 km/hr when apparently my plastic rad cap failed and i dumped all the coolant.  before i realized the overtemp i overheated and the vehicle shut down.  i was able to find a plug to cap the hole and topped up the fluid.  but now the check engine light is on and there is slight sqeeky sound as i accelerate.  could you please provide me some reasons and is the check light a resulting problem or a reset or something.  the engine seems to run fine other than the above mentioned sound.  let me know if you need more info. thanks.

Answer
Hi Kevin,

Disco series I or II?

Could be the serpentine belt or a pulley soaked in coolant.  This liquid can get sticky when it dries, so maybe that's the cause of the noise.

As for the CHECK ENGINE light, could be that a sensor was soaked.  You'll have to get an OBD reader and see what the code(s) is(are).  Advance Auto can do this for you.  Nice guys.

I hope no sensor or electrical component has been damaged.  Worse case is that the engine temperature was so extreme that it damaged the engine.  Cylinder sleeves have been known to drop if engine temp stays extreme for too long.  Once this happens, you'll need a new engine.  Let's hope it's something less expensive, like an O2 sensor.

Get the OBD (or is it OBDII) codes and let me know.
