Land Rover Repair: land rover disco 2001, diagnostic assistance, clock radio

Question
When I turn the ignition key on, my car will start, however, nothing else will work ie, air, clock, radio....This is not everytime I turn it on, but several times a week.  It's a the dealership now and they can't find anything wrong with it.  Any suggestions?

Answer
The ignition switch could be bad, or the body control unit, or one of the relays.  You will probably have to catch this car in the act to diagnose it.

Faults like this don't store codes in memory, so there is no computer aided diagnostic assistance like for a check engine light.

I'm sure your dealer will be able to sort it out if the malfunction occurs while it's in the shop. But if they bring it in and it's fine there won't be anything they can do.

I'd suggest you bring it back to the dealer when it acts up more regularly.  Otherwise you could spend a lot of money checking things that are working.  When something works when tested it's virtually impossible to say "it didn't work" at some point in the past.
