Land Rover Repair: 98 RR HSE Windshield washer problem, washer pumps, rear windshield

Question
John,
I found out that the windshield washers do not work on my 98 RR HSE that I have recently purchase.
In checking things out I found that the wire plugs had been removed from the front and rear windshield washer pumps. I removed the windshield wiper fluid reservoir with the three fluid pumps. Removed the pumps from the tank, cleaned and tested each pump. When 12 VDC is applied to each pump the pumps operate.
I then went back under the vehicle to test the plugs, plugged my meter into the red plug (front washer) and found 12 VDC present. Found no current in the other plugs.
I’m guessing that finding current present on the red plug is due to a washer relay stuck closed, need to replace relay, or the switch n the steering column is bad.

I did not test to see if there was current present on the black plug when the switch was depressed at this time. Going to test tonight.

Question, were are the windshield wiper relays located?
What colors are the relays?

John

Answer
There are no relays for the washer pumps.  They are powered by the BECM, the large box under the passenger seat.  The BECM receives signals from the switches and it runs the washer pumps and also powers the wiper motors

The Land Rover test system allows us to force on the BECM outputs to test circuits, and we can also read the inputs.  That's how we would tell if the BECM was bad or simply not getting an input.

If you want to test this yourself I suggest paying for a day's access to www.landrovertechinfo.com and printing the relevant diagrams and component locations and connection pinouts.

I would guess that the reason the plugs are unhooked is that the BECM is faulty and it's a $1,500 repair.  The BECM must be coded by a shop with the t4 or autologic test system - is it not replaceable with a used part nor is it replaceable at home
