Land Rover Repair: How to start car immobiliser problem, rf receiver, car immobiliser

Question
I have looked at my manuals - and have noticed I have a "Security Information" card and a tag with a number stamped on it.

I have read a section called
"Engine immobilisation override" in the handbook

I have read the set of instructions but it is not working. I am normally good at following instructions.

My security code is 6118 and I am supposed to turn the key inside the drivers door this number of times but the warning bleep sounds when I finish and the engine is not immobilised - what can I do?

Question -
I am unable to start my car. It is not a Land Rover but a Rover car. It had never given me problems before till now. My mechanic has had a look at it and says it is an immobiliser problem and since he is not an electrician does not know what to do?

The car does not turn, but the radio plays, lights turn etc. I have had a similar problem before and I frantically pressed the remote control and it worked but not this time.

Any suggestion on what I should do?

Hi Sid Alam,

it could be as simple as reprogramming your security system (sort of like a reboot of a PC).  Re-initializing the security system may help.  I am not sure how to do this on a Rover.  Contact your dealer, perhaps there is a way to do this.  Land Rover's have a sequence of events that have to be completed within 8 seconds.  Once completed, the security system is reloaded.  I doubt it is the same sequence as your Rover.

It could also be that the RF receiver within your security system is faulty in which case you have no choice but to have it serviced.

Call a dealer and see if there is anything you can do...just to get it started.

The other possibility is that there is a ignition related problem that appears to be security.  If your ignition switch is shorted out OR the wire from your ignition switch to the starter is fouled, it would look like this too. With dirt and oil soaking over your starter ignition wire connector, eventually this can cause the same symptoms.

Best of luck,

Answer
Sid,

don't pass that security code around so easily! You never know who's reading your question.  I don't post anything that will assist in breaking security or by-passing key systems.

You could disconnect the negative cable on your battery, reattach the cable and try your security by-pass again.  Other than that, I don't know much about Rover's.

Perhaps you could try this site:

perhaps someone there can help you out.
