Hi John, Hi everybody,

I already read the thread about the spider unit beeing located behind the dashboard.

I thought it would be the answer to my problem, under important heat / humidity my Disco SE7 V8 4.0 would not start and sometimes had problem to remove the key from the ignition, sometimes the disco would just "die" while running ... and the list goes on...

Well, bought a radio removal tool, a soldering iron, ect... I removed the dash, was ready to fix my spider unit and then surprise ! No Spider Unit under my dash ! No cable arriving with an empty connector either... The metal plate is there but nothing on it.... :(

Could it be located elsewhere instead ?

Thank you for your time and your help.

Andre

Answer -
Pardon my ignorance, but what is the spider unit?

The "spider unit" is the commun name for a part of the immobilizer/ alarm system located behind the dashboard usually, I think the Land Rover part number is ARM 4889.

It s described in this thread :

http://experts.about.com/q/Land-Rover-Repair-1470/alarm-system.htm

I believe it s what keep my starter from operating from time to time.

Thanks

Andre

Answer
Andre, I really suggest you go to the landrovertechinfo web site and pay for access to your car.  Security controllers used by LR vary from year to year, and country to country.

I really think you will get better guidance from the official source.

In my othe ranswer to you I pointed out that 90% of no cranks are the starter, ignition switch, or transmission switch.  Here in America if the alarm ECU goes bad it is not necessary to gut the interior to replace it.  So I'm not sure what to make of your situation.
