Land Rover Repair: Range Rover Moaning at 70 mph, drive shafts, deceleration

Question
I have a 2000 RR HSE 4.6 and I notice a moaning noise coming from below the cabin area when I'm accelerating/decelerating at around 70 mph.  I also notice rapid deceleration when I drop below 30 mph.  I want to have an idea of the possible problems before I take it LR.

Answer
A noise from below the cabin is presumably in the transfer case, the transmission, or the axles and drive shafts.

There is no common failure that results in a moan.

As regards "rapid deceleration below 30" you should put the car in neutral and try to push it.  Is it easy to roll, or hard?  If it's hard from something dragging you should investigate that.

Brake drag is common, and it will result in one or more wheels being hotter than the others
