Land Rover Repair: ABS light comes on, obd ii scanners, specialist test

Question
99 Disco 1 XD. My ABS light comes on and stays on often. it usually stays on for a few hours or a few days and then goes off for a few hours or a few days. it has been like this for a few years. I don't notice a problem with my breaks although when I am breaking heavy and hit something like a pothole just before I stop I hear/feel my ABS clicking like it would on ice. My tires are still on the ground and turning when this happens. Do you think this is something I should get fixed? any idea where to start?
thanks a bunch,
geoff

Answer
You are going to have to find a dealer or a shop with an Autologic test system to read the faults from the ABS, or take it to the dealer.  For a list of shops with proper equipment look on www.rangerovers.net

Should you fix it?  That's up to you.  If the ABS triggers like you say it could prevent a quick stop someday, and that could lead to an accident.  I would fix it.

There is no home remedy because you need the specialist test system to talk to the ABS computer.  The generic OBD II scanners only talk to the engine controller.
