Land Rover Repair: Engine of a 97 discovery stalls when heating, sticky valves, strenous

Question
Hi John,
My 97 discovery has started to falter and stop when under strenous and hot conditions. During a summer day going upheal and shifting into a lower gear to pass another car. From that point the vehicle would start, drive for 100-150 meters and then stall again. The problem disappears under normal conditions.
I have had the electricity looked at and there does not seem to be a problem the enegine pressures are also OK and the engine does not heat up usually.
Any Ideas?
Thanks
Eran

Answer
Here are some possible problems to check for:
1 - clogged fuel filter
2 - bad spark plugs or ignition wires
3 - fuel pump about to fail or bad pump wiring
4 - sticking valves in the engine

Of those, sticky valves is both the most common and most costly cause as weather heats up.  Go to  www.robisonservice.com > service > land rover > advice and find my article on carbon fouling to learn more.
