Land Rover Repair: engine missing Landrover, spark plug wires, acre wilderness

Question
I have a 97 Landrover discovery with 110,000 miles. The engine misses intermittingly, it seems to do so when hot or under a load. I'm in an extremely remote area of Colorado/Utah and very little mechanics much less dealerships. If my rover quits on me it could mean my life! I live in the middle of a million acre wilderness area and in the summer or winter I could not walk out and no cell phone coverage. So please I need answers. I have replaced the fuel filter, used fuel additives, replaced the spark plug wires, had a mechanic flush the engine with some sort of solvent, used premium fuel and all to no avail, what else can I do, keeping in mind that I work as a cowboy and not much money. Thanks, sincerely Bubby Vereen

Answer
On a 97 Rover engine the most common causes of the symptoms you describe are a bad speed sensor (located on the transfer case) or sticking valves.

I suggest you read more about fixing and checking those things in the article on our web site.  Go to www.robisonservice.com > service dept > rover > advice and search for the carbon fouling article.
