Land Rover Repair: K reg/1992 Landrover Discovery Brake problem, land rover specialist, discovery models

Question
Hi, I have just had the brakes fail on me. luckily I was traveling in low speed through town. I used the handbrake to stop. I pulled in to a car park. There was no presure on the brake pedal at all. RAC brought me home. Now ther brakes are working ok. Brake pedal a bit spongy. Could this be air in the line or something more serious. Any help would be appreciated

Answer
I doubt your problem is so simple as "air in the lines."  While air is a problem in newer Discovery II models it is seldom a problem with 1992 Land Rovers.

The Discovery models with antilock brakes often fail in this way when the expensive valve under the hood - a master cylinder in a non-abs car - goes bad.

Some of the Land Rover brake systems rely on an electrical pump to generate pressure for braking, and that pump may have failed.  I'm not sure which setup you have because I'm an American LR service manager and our systems are different.

If your truck has ABS I suggest you have it checked by a Land Rover specialist with the Autologic or T4 test system because the ABS is electronic and the computer may store faults.
