Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 2004 Mercury Mountaineer Noises, money money money, lincoln dealership

Question
Hi Eddie,
I have had some issues with my car lately and have had some work done to it but the problems are still there. I had regular maintenance done ie: oil change/ filter. Now I have an additional problem. First I have had a clicking or ticking sound coming from my tire area. It is sometimes the right side or rear side, and I've heard it from all sides of the vehicle. I've been told to go to a tire shop. Since the oil change I have another problem that's really bothering me. My car rides ROUGH like it wants to shift but after it shifts it's still loud and rough. I can turn the radio up and the sound is louder then the radio. I also feel it rough on my feet from the pedal. When I'm on the freeway I feel like it shimmies a bit. I've done alot of research and I'm worried that it could be a transmission problem. Please help, I'm super happy I found this site, thank god for some advise without gouging me for money, money, money.

Answer
Connie,
Noises can be very tough to diagnose when the vehicle is right in front of you....much less over the net. From what you've described, the problem can be many things. I'm sorry I can't help you, but this used to be one of my jobs when I worked for Ford/Lincoln years ago. Nothing beats driving the vehicle and experiencing the problem first hand. I don't know if I would waist my money at a tire shop....as they're usually not very well trained in doing much other than tires, alignments and brakes. Unfortunately, I think your best best would be to take it to a good Ford or Lincoln dealership. A plain Ford dealership works on many more "trucks" and since the Mountaineer is the sistership for the Explorer, they probably have allot more experience dealing with noises. Again, sorry I can't help you more.
