Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 94 sable no power and wont run, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
I am working on a 94 sable 3.0. the person was driving it one day and i quit
running. took it to a garage. they put new plugs, distributor cap, and rotor. No
help. New fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator. No help. Cut off the catylittic
converts still no help. The car does not have any power. will only go about 20
mph at best, blowing black smoke, and uses lots of gas. I am thinking something
in emmissions. EGR sensor, mass air flow sensor, mapps sensor? I could really
help with this without the cost of replacing until the problem is found.  thanks

Answer
I don't know how many miles are on this, but it's possible that the timing belt has slipped. My other thoughts are sensors and I assume your check engine light is on. The check engine light will mean there is a DTC stored in the computer. We will need to know what that is.

Why is my answer surprising? I can only make suggestions unless you drive out here and have me look at it. Yeah, it's a sensor, replace all of them, when your done throwing money at it have it diagnosed. This ain't your father's Oldsmobile. It's fully controlled by computer. Everything from the air/fuel mixture to idle speed and when it's going to shift. There isn't even a cable to drive your speedometer, yes, it's electronic too. The timing is so far off that it's blowing crap out the tailpipe, but guess what? You timing is computer controlled too. It is being adjusted by the computer to compensate for the bad or damaged sensor. So run it down to your local guy with a scan tool and find out what the code is. I will be thrilled to help you figure out which sensor(s) you broke replacing all that tune up waste of money. BTW It's a MAP sensor. Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor, but that ain't the problem. And you cut off the cats and give me a 7 in knowledge? What the heck do you think the 02s are going to do? Yeah, good luck, get a bicycle and thanks for using AE...
