Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 93 Topaz Questions, transmission fluid change, 1993 mercury topaz

Question
Hi Pete, I have three short questions regarding a 1993 Mercury Topaz 2.3L Automatic with 85k miles.

1) Does this particular engine (the 2.3L 4-cyl) need to have its timing chain replaced at regular intervals, or is it good for the life of the engine?

2) When the engine is cold, the transmission sometimes stutters (and occasionally stalls) on the initial shift from Park to Reverse or Drive.  This problem has only started occuring recently.  Is this an early sign of transmission failure, or do I just need a simple transmission fluid change?

3) The speedometer and odometer (but not the tachometer or any other gauges) recently started operating erratically and finally stopped working altogether.  Does this sound like a bad fuse, or does the car need a new speedometer?

Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jack

Answer
hello jack
on the timeing chain it is good for the life of the eng. on less needs to be replaced . not commom should last.

on the tranny i would do a tranny serivice it is need of changeing filter and fluid .

this sounds like a speed domotor cable or bad speed senser best to have that checked by a shop .

good luck to u and hope i have helped.
