Mazda Repair: new clutch but not shifting, clutch hydraulics, pilot bearings

Question
QUESTION: I just replaced the clutch, pressure plate, throw out and pilot bearings on my 92 miata. Also replaced both master and slave cylinders, but pedal has no tension wat so ever. tried bleeding, and adjusting but just minor improvement.
any idea's?

ANSWER: A pedal or feel issue is normally clutch hydraulics (master/slave/hose).  It is possible that one of your new hydraulic parts is bad.  If you can pressure bleed the system this will expand the pistons in both.  You can then bleed them the old fashioned way with a partner, the hold and open method.  Once your sure no air is in the system, cycle the pedal while a bud looks at the slave cylinder to see if its extending and returning properly.

The system is real simple, the only adjustment is the pedal push rod and that should be left with about a 1/2" of free play.  Worst case; you didn't set the clutch fork back onto the ball socket or the retaining clip didn't grab it before you reassembled.  If that is the case, you'll be pulling it back apart.  To confirm this fate, remove the clutch slave and check for free play in the fork.

QUESTION: not to sound dumb but free play in the fork, it should not move without the slave?
thank you...

Answer
Right, unless your superman you shouldn't be able to push the clutch fork back and forth by hand, it will have some wiggle though minimal since it is a loosely fit part only clipped into position, the release bearing hangs loosely onto it.  Check your hydraulic parts first
