Volkswagen: 1968 VW Beetle stalling in reverse., vw beetle, clutch

Question
Oh its a 4-speed manual, it could be something with the coil, and the reverse lights hooked up to wrong terminal in the coil, but if it is, im not sure.

Hi Paul,

Is this an autostick VW or Manual?

Thanks,

Ron

Answer
Hi Paul,

The reverse lights should be hooked up to the 'positive' lead on the coil. (the same lead on the coil that the ignition wire is on, opposite the green one that goes to the distributor).

If it is correct, unplug the reverse light wire from the coil and try it.

If the car performs correctly,  you know that the reverse lights are grounding out somewhere, and you will need to track down where the wire is bare and touching the body of the car.

Let me know how you make out.
