Steering Column Repair: Headlight High Beam/Turn Signal Malfunction, cutlass ciera, steering column repair

Question
Hi,

The turn signal lever on a 93 Cutlass Ciera S will not engage the high beam position for the headlights. In other words, when pulling the lever back, it will not catch in the on position for the high beams. It just slips out of there, back to original the low beam position. Do you have an idea in which part or switch the problem lies and the procedure to fix the problem? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Coaster:

If it clicks into place but does not switch beams, it sounds like a bad dimmer switch.  If it does not click when you pull it, it may just be an adjustment of that switch.

We have recently uploaded some pdf & video instructions on our company website (for a small fee) to give you first hand viewing of how to remove, disassemble, and reassemble the tilt column you are talking about. They are broken down into step by step detailed instructions. Although the instructions are not for your exact car, the column is very similar to yours.
