Mazda Repair: door wont shut, interior door panel, mazda tribute

i have a 2002 mazda tribute, somehow the locking mechanism on the driver's side door got jammed down and whenever i try to close the door it just pops back open. The locking mechanism is able to be pushed down a couple centimeters but it does not much at all when i try to push it back up. i need help!!

That is odd. Have you tried shutting the door with the door handle lifted? That will sometimes cause these types of jams to resolve themselves. Try doing any combination of shutting the door while locked/unlocked while holding the interior handle/exterior handle. If this does not work, then it is time to take the interior door panel off and see what's going on in there.
