Military Vehicle Repair: starter problem, alternator problems, selonoid

Question
Van, This is more advice than a question. The gentleman in the previous e mail said about smoke coming from the starter area. I have had this happen to me twicw with my cucv. The place I purchased the batteries from did it once and I did it the first time. The fuseible links burnt out on my truck. Theyt are right near the brake booster area on the firewall near that diamond shaped junction block. Ive had to replace them all, twice. My truck did the same thing as that gentlemans. The battery shop hooked the rear battery up wrong and smoked the links. After replacing them I have had no trouble with them. I did however start to have starter and alternator problems. The shop that rebuilt them said the selonoid burnt out of the starter and the diodes burnt out of the alternators, possibly from hooking things up backwards. They didnt start to act up until a couple of weeks later. Just thought this might help him out.

Answer
Thanks Nate,
I remember answering a question a while back, and I did mention the fusible links, but on my trucks they are behind the rear battery.
I remember seeing some in the area you are talking about though.
I'm surprised it damaged the solenoid, but not surprised it damaged the alternators.

Thanks again,
Van
