Mitsubishi Repair: Galant V6 automatic gearbox, mitsubishi galant, metal shavings

Question
I have a 1997 V6 2000cc Mitsubishi Galant. The problem is with the Overdrive. When the gearbox is cold the overdrive will after a few hundred yards go into neutral, ease of the accelerator it will go back in, but will happen again usually within a few hundred yards. Once the gearbox is hot it operates faultlessly most of the time. There is no slippage and the gearbox otherwise works as it should.

Answer
Martin,
The first thing you should do is check your transmission fluid level.  It may be low, dirty, or burnt.  If the the fluid appears dirty, has a burnt odor to it, or you detect metal shavings in it, you may need a transmission rebuild.  But if your fluid appears clean and is at the proper level, it would be a good idea to have a transmission shop of the dealership inspect the transmission and electrical system.
Good luck!
