Mitsubishi Repair: Idel Value Control, oil pressure gauge, lower ball joints

Thank you for the answer. I have a extended Warranty. I am not sure if it would cover the IAC. Could you please take a look at the following, and give advice? Thank you so much!

They would cover:

Engine (Every moving part inside the engine except rubber belt), Transmisstion (Every moving part inside the transmission case), Electrical (Starter, alternator, generator, voltage regulator, trunk lid moter, whdshield washer pump, the wiper moters, starter solenoid, ignition control unit, powerseat motor), Suspension (Upper and lower control arms, wheel bearings and whell bushings, upper ball joints, lower ball joints,), Instrumentation (Mechanical: Speedometer, tachometer, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, ampere gauge.), Brake components (brake cable, compensating valve, brake line tubing and fittings), Boday Componenets (Door and trunk locks, door hinges, latches and locks).

Hi Anthony,

I have a 2000 mitsubishi mirage. Few month ago, my call stall when I was stopping in a red light. I took it to a auto-repair shop, they did a Throttle Body service. The car works fine after, but the check engine light comes on sometime. I took the car to a shop again, and they check it said "Idel Control Malfuntion". The guy told me I could repace the Idel Air Control Value, but I don't have to. It should be ok to drive, and he just turn the lights off.

I went home for a month, and didn't use the car at all for a month. Recently, there is two times when I start the car, and start backing up. The car stall (I guess loss power, the oil and battery light came on). I turn in off, I start all over again and it works fine after. I also notice that, it only does that in the morning when I first start the car, and didn't drive the car the day before. I was wondering if this is a battery problem or has something to do with the Idel Control. Should I have the Idel Control replace?

The idle air controller (IAC) is what I believe the shop is referring to.  It's also called the Idle Speed Control (ISC).  It's responsible for maintaining the correct amount of air to enter your engine when you're not stepping on the gas pedal.  It's fairly common for the IAC to wear out over time, but it's not too common on a 4 year old car.  But if you do a lot of stop-and-go driving where your car will idle for long periods of time, it can cause your IAC to wear out more quickly.

If you don't mind dealing with the occasional stalling, you don't need to replace it right away.  But overtime, the problem will get worse until the point where the car will not idle at all.  The IAC is a pretty expensive part; usually between $200-$250.  Check your warranty information, and perhaps it's covered under the original warranty.  Otherwise, get it fixed when you can.

The list of items covered under your warranty may still cover your IAC.  Your IAC is both an engine component and an electrical device.  The best thing to do is get an absolute answer from the dealership service department.  They may be able to tell you right over the phone if you call them.
