Question
How do I set the timing between the cam and crank on an 87 Suzuki Savage Ls?

Answer
Ross,I dont have a manual on this so forgive me. Remove the spark plug and remove the center screw in plug on the left flywheel cover. Turn the engine over with a socket and ratchet on the crank bolt. The piston should be at TDC and the lobes on the cam should be facing away from the cam actuator arms. Some of the suzuki models had a timing mark at the top of the cam sprocket and a horizontal line on the face of the sprocket to align it along the top of the cylinder head. If it needs to be changed take the chain tensioner loose and take the bolts out of the cam holder and tilt the cam up and lower the sprocket down to get enough slack to position it correctly. Then tight everything back up once you've got it set.
