Motorcycle Repair: 2002 crf 450r, high octane gas, lucas fuel injection

Question
so my crf 450r supermoto sat for the holidays about 2 months, and now it wont start? i drained the gas, changed the spark plug, replaced all the gas lines? still wont start. it pops/backfires during kicks like its very close to starting. I pulled the spark plug out and kicked the bike over a few times, and only seen it fire 2x during 10+ kicks? weird? so I ordered a new pick up coil hoping that will fix the problem? If not I will prob go to the shop so they can test everything and pin point the prob for me? any help would be great thank Nick

Answer
Nick,The problem may be inside the carb itself. The gas we get nowadays has a lot of alcohol based  additives that break down and plug the jets in the carb. You may have to pull the carb and go through it and clean the jets and passages then retry it again also make sure you have the right sparkplug in it. Also after the cleaning put in about a 1/2 bottle of Lucas fuel injection cleaner. It breaks down any sludge left to a manageable size to go through the carb jets.Fresh high octane gas and run this out then use the other 1/2 of the bottle. This should help. The spark problem may be that the plug got a coating of bad gas baked on. Also on this type of bike also the quad too The spark isnt very hot at turn over but increases at operating speed.
