Motorcycle Repair: Idleing, adjustment screw, screw driver

Question
QUESTION: It will not come off I have literally tried everything. Heat, hammer, vice grip, oil. Is there a way I can get the oil out and just leave the filter? I broke a screw driver and two sockets trying to get this bolt out I am just destroying it's head. I cut a notch as a last resort to try and use a flat head driver. How much would a mechanic charge to get it off if I were to take it to a shop.

ANSWER: Hey Ross,

I'm really surprised that the bolt will not budge. Someone, must have put it on with an air impact gun or something?
If you can get a socket it on it and you know it won't slip, then I would place a long hallow bar over the socket wrench for more leverage. Then have someone hold the bike so it doesn't fall over and apply pressure slowly from the end of the leverage bar.
If the head of the bolt is stripped, see if you can get a pipe wrench on it. Its teeth should dig into the bolt and not slip. Then put the long hallow bar over the pipe wrench for leverage.

Hope this helps?

QUESTION: I have a 1970 honda cb750. It idles really high some times which causes bad shifting. Any idea how to fix this?

Answer
There should be an idle adjustment screw in and around the carbs. It looks like a knurled knob and it usually sits in the middle of the carbs. Sometimes on top or underneath. Turning it clockwise will increase the idle and counter clockwise decreases the idle. The idle should be around 1000 RPM
