Motorcycle Repair: 1976 Sportster Harley Davidson, start model, metal tube

Question
I have a 76 Sportster, we rebuildt this bike top to bottom. It ran great for the first few 100 miles then after when you try to start the bike the engine spits the oil out at the line on the right hand side at the regulator. Not sure what this line is but comes off the housing the regulator mounts to and is a short 6-7" long metal tube.  Any ideas. The Bike turns over fine but have not been able to get it started.
Thanks

Answer
The pipe your referring to on the right side of the bike is your breather pipe. How much oil comes out of this pipe? Is there any oil in the oil bag or did it all drain down into the crankcase? Is the bike an electric start model? When you try to start it does it fire at all? I might be able to help you if I can get some more information.
