Motorcycle Repair: 05 Heritage, stock clutch, clutch adjustment

Question
QUESTION: Good morning Mike,
05 Heritage with 10,000 miles. On a recent ride, there was a secondary grinding noise that I couldnt identify where it was coming from. It does not occur at idle, but does as I throttle thru gears. I also noticed that as I switch gears, trans was not as cooperative as normal. I assumed it was clutch adjustment. Does that seem right? Also, what fluid goes into a stock clutch for this bike?
Really appreciate your time!
Matt

ANSWER: You use primary oil for the clutch. Do you hear the noise when you pull the clutch in as well as when the clutch is out?

QUESTION: Mike,
Not when clutch is pulled in. I think I found the primary chain to be the culprit
...I think! It had about an inch and a quarter play. Do I fill the primary through
Allen-head dipstick on right side of bike where clutch cable goes in, or is that
a seperate reservoir?
I really appreciate your help!
Matt Austin

Answer
You should have about 1/2 inch play in the primary chain. Check it when the bike is cold. You fill the primary through the derby cover located at the back of the inner primary. With the bike sitting upright, fill to the bottom edge of the derby cover
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
