Motorcycle Repair: 86 sportster engine/tranny noise, clutch basket, noise question

Question
QUESTION:  i have a 86 1100 sportster and when it is running it sounds like there is a rock rattling around inside the lower engine/tranny area. there is plenty of oil in it and the primary is adjusted correctly. also i have changed the engine oil less than 200 miles ago and it was very black already and seems like its running hot oil temp was above 260 and it looked like water

ANSWER: If you ride the bike down the road and say you are going 60 MPH and you pull the clutch in and coast, do you still here the noise? Do you hear it more at high RPMs or low RPMs

QUESTION: the noise is there if the clutch is engaged or not and it is through the whole rpm range. sometimes it isnt as loud as others too.

Answer
Its have for me to tell about noises on here, due to the fact I cant hear them. What you need to do it determine if it is coming out of the bottom end or the top end. If its the bottom end it could be a motor sprocket nut coming loose, or the clutch basket nut.
Top end could be a pushrod to loose or a cam bearing going out.

Good luck and happy riding
