Motorcycle Repair: smoking exhaust, two different places, oil breather

Question
Mike - my 67 FL shovelhead has been sitting for over a year. I know about the oil breather discharge issue but cant understand why I am getting smoke out of my exhaust (front cylinder). Could oil be leaking past the rings since it sat so long? Rebuilt a few years ago and have very little miles on the new motor so its hard to believe the rings or valves would already be shot....?

Answer
Smoke from the exhaust can be from two different places, Either you have oil leaking past the rings or you have oil leaking through the valve guides. Sitting for a long period is hard on a motor. You might have gotten a rust ring in the cylinder which will make it smoke
Good luck and happy riding
