Question
hi wayne, thank you for taking the time help me with this problem! I recently bought this bike from a member of my church. It had been sitting for approx. 3 years. I flushed the old gas from the tank, removed the carbs and allowed them to soak for about two days in fresh gasoline, purchased two new throtle cables, a new battery, plugs and, plug wires. The bike started right up however, it only seems to run good with the choke fully applied. When the choke is released and the throtle is opened it bogs and barely idles. This bike is my only means of transportation and any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Rick,

the small idle jets in the carbs
may be plugged unless you cleaned
them physically. After being
stored so long the carbs
will need very thorough cleaning.

The gas tank fuel valve or petcock
has a filter up inside the tank
and often the rubbers in the valve
can go bad restricting the fuel flow
to the carburetors.

In the center of the float bowl is
the main jet and under it is a needle
jet which has many small holes that
plug easily.

You can get some carb cleaner in a spray
can and work on getting those jets really
clean. Spray all the small passageways
in the carbs until they are clean also.
Lots of time spent cleaning the carbs
will pay off in the long run with
a better running bike.
